Stavanger
is the fourth-biggest city of Norway, and the oil capital of Europe, although you would not realise it, from the harbour - called vågen - in the centre, with
the old wooden houses of Gamle Stavanger beside it

The first stage race is from Sunderland in England to Esbjerg in Denmark, leaving Sunderland around 14th July and arriving in Esbjerg around 18th July. The second stage race is from Stavanger to Harlingen, leaving Stavanger around 29 July and arriving Harlingen around 3 August. Kids Verdict: This should be fun to watch for a while - especially getting on board some of the ships. Hopefully there will be other activities - like letting them make their own wooden tall ships, as in 2004 Tall Ships Race in Stavanger (from which some of the pictures come).
