 Description: The zinc mines - Sinkgruver i Allmannajuvet - were opened in 1881 and closed down in 1889. The path up to the mines and some of the mine shafts and lower levels have been restored, and can be visited with a guide from Sauda Ferie & Fritid - the tourist information office in Sauda. This is a great attraction, and a lovely walk by the river, with waterfalls, to get there. Children (from about 4 years old) will find it exciting and adults should find it interesting.  Location description: The mines are at Allmannajuvet, about 10 kilometers along the FV 520 road from Sauda to Røldal Directions for getting there: Book in advance at Sauda Ferie in Sauda (52784200), then meet at the small car park beside the FV 520 road from Sauda to Røldal, just before a bridge across the river. The path to the mine starts here, and you will get a helmet and light. |
