Månafossen and beyond

This walk goes past the spectacular Månafossen waterfall and up into the beautiful valley beyond. This is a classic U-shaped glacial valley with plenty of places to stop for a picnic. You can hike for hours or even days from here using the network of tourist huts to overnight.
Månafossen is the biggest waterfall in Rogaland and is not far from Stavanger Norway. It sits on the border between the Ryfylke area and the high Jaeren to the south.

autumn colours This walk begins with the climb up to the Månafossen waterfall. Continue on upwards and around the chasm cut by the waterfall, through woodland, and into the great open U-shaped valley above. For a good scramble over big boulders continue 2km up the valley to the glacial morraine and the lake beyond. It is beautiful here.

Come here in, or just after, bad weather; the river in flood is definitely worth seeing and the waterfall can be quite awesome after prolonged heavy rain.

Contact the Turistforening for more information on overnighting in mountain hyttes (huts) in this area.
