The Old Post Road, Hegrestad to Holland Bru
The
Old Post Road is a 7km trail between Hegrestad and Holland Bru through
lovely barren mountain terrain with several pretty lakes. The landscape
here is very unusual due to the rare anortosite rock found in this area. |

The
trail is good for walkers and fit cyclists. It is not suitable for prams
and pushchairs because of the steep gradients and soft road surface. The Post Road became part of the Western Highway from 1843. The command from Denmark, with no consideration given to the terrain, was that it should be built as straight as possible. Cars had to go dangerously fast, breaking all speed limits, down the hills in order to get up the next hill! The road was closed at the end of the 1930s. A new road was built during the war using forced labour. Note: Using train as transport, the walk is 10km between Hellvik and Ogna stations.
