Road system
The E39 and RV 44 are the
main north-south roads: the E39 is faster and some distance inland,
the RV44 stays closer to the coast and can be a more interesting drive.
RV 45 (to Sinnes in Sirdal) and RV 42 (to Tonstad in Sirdal and beyond)
are the main roads inland. A good network of smaller roads becomes
more limited towards the eastern edge of the area, as the mountains
make their mark on the scenery.
Car ferries
There are no ferry services
in this region, apart from international services to Denmark, from
Egersund.
Fast boats
There are no fast boat services
in this region, although there are quite a few small harbours used
by fishermen and pleasure craft.
Railway
The regular local railway
service that runs from Stavanger to Egersund stops at many local stations
through the Jaeren and make possible a lot of different walking or
cycling trips that don't require a car.
South of Egersund the service is more limited.
Bus and coach services
Buses and longer-distance
coach services link within and beyond the area.
Airports
The nearest airport is Stavanger
airport at Sola.
Kristiansand (Kjevik) airport is about two or three hours drive to
