centre, but recent winters have seen the area blanketed in great
depths of snow

Getting here:
You can fly
to Kristiansand or arrive on a ferry
from Denmark
Hovden
is one of the main ski destinations from Kristiansand - it is a 200
km drive north up the RV 9 road through Setesdal to get there. There
is a regular bus service. Several hotels, plus many apartments and
hyttes (cabins).
The skisenter is one of the biggest in south Norway, and is expanding
(2008 and 2011))
Byglandsfjord:
This small skisenter is
about 100 km up RV9 - halfway to Hovden. One steep main slope, beginners
slope at the top and some cross-country trails over the tops as well.
One hotel.
The 4 skisenters of
Sirdal - plus lots of cross-country trails - are about 4 hours away.
Take the E 39 north towards Egersund, then RV 42 to Tonstad and north up Sirdalen.
Telemark:
Rauland and Lifjell are
also reached fairly easily
