Stavanger 2008 part 3

2 September 2005
We believe that the Stavanger region has all the elements needed to be a much more popular tourism and leisure destination, with many hidden jewels which have few visitors today. It will be the (non-EU) European Capital of Culture in 2008, and we think this could and should be the perfect opportunity to set up the infrastructure to help visitors see the potential, and give the local people a focus and feel that they are part of the festival

In the third of our suggestions for 2008, we would like to see a "Stavanger card".
Not a new idea - many places have one (including Bergen and Oslo).
It's a symbol of an area that is well-organised and that has a lot to offer.

If the "merry-go-round" boat suggestion was taken up, linking together and attracting attention to many of the places for people to visit, it would help with putting together a package offering:

  • free or discounted entry to museums and other attractions;
  • access to whatever the weekend event might be;
  • free or discounted use of the boats and buses to get there;
  • discounts at participating shops, restaurants, hotels etc;
  • for 1 day, 2 days, etc.
